Another Perfect Evening (Are we just lucky or does everyone get them?)
I realize that I have used the phrase "incredibly beautiful evening" so often that it has no real meaning now, but really, this evening is outstanding, possibly the best one ever. First of all, I spent over an hour at the pond trying to move closer to the bird, and instead realized again that the pond system itself is a thing of intense beauty. There were hundreds of almost shocking (cobalt?) blue dragonflys hovering just above the pond surface. The birds of early Spring and early Summer are gone, but there are lots of different birds in their place. The bees are way more numerous than normal, but still present and an integral part of the flow. Fish jump out of the water every few minutes and finally I also realized that as Summer leaves, so do the intense algae populations. The pond water is clear now. By 7PM the heat that had built during the day started to dissipate (no breeze, it just went away) and as the coolness started to set in, a pulsing (not really, or maybe barely) 3/4 moon appeared in the kaleidoscope sky. I haven't asked anyone else about their day and probably won't, but I was moved by the whole picture. Even though I eventually remembered that malaria carrying mosquitoes have been found in Carlsbad and I came inside for spray, I'm still definitely nominating this day for first position in my list of the 19,330 best days of my life.
