Labor Day Weekend

I noticed that Bill was dragging mesquite up to his grills early this morning.

2 8/10 inches of rain today

Incredibly long, nice rain through the middle part of the day. The fish are playful and the evening is perfect.

Semi-arid today

I was taking pictures of cloud reflections in the pond, sort of absorbed, but remembered to watch where I was walking in case of snakes and when I looked up a yellow cat was watching me from the other side of Bill's boat. I thought it was the wild mother cat and since I don't want to scare her unnecessarily, I started backing away and avoiding eye contact. When I was almost to the other end of the pond I realized that wild cats don't have a flea collars. It was Camron's cat. Anyway he or she, I don't know which and I don't know its name, is a good friend and helped take the rest of the pictures.

Great sky. The perfect color of blue but I think the white clouds make that happen.

Hot again

Killer hot day, and muggy seems to be the state of things. Just scared CatFisher away from the pond but am now thinking that maybe it's not such a bad thing. If she can exist independently of human assistance then good for her. It's not like any of us would make such great friends.

When I stopped to take the first picture I noticed that instantly a large ball of fish was swirling just beneath the surface. Coincidence? Maybe, but I walked a ways along the berm and stopped again, and there were some more. Either they are following me for sinister purposes, or they are like Kilo, and Cashlin, and the bees for sure (they can drain the hummingbird feeder in two days) and know where food comes from - big human appears and food happens.

Perfect semi-fall day

Cool for a while this morning and the heat of the day left fairly quickly. The pond animals (actually more like the entire yard and pond) are busy and synchronized. I saw two bull bats or night hawks this afternoon. Their flight and hunting techniques are absolutely beautiful, especially with the evening colors.

Perfect end of summer weather

Hi Phil. Josh just told me that you read this. He and Bill were cooking out when I walked to the pond earlier.
As usual I scared the mother cat away from her fishing spot. I probably won't ever be able to film her catching a fish so I asked Camron to draw a picture of it. He should have it finished by tonight.

Bill's Diner?

My sister said that she watched the feral mother cat pull a 5" catfish out the of the pond earlier. She has been worried about how the kittens were being fed, and all of us have noticed the mother cat sitting on the edge of the water, staring into the pond. She submerged half of her body and came out with a fish.
How great.
We also now have four large barn owls hunting here in the evenings.
