Raining Again

Our average annual precipitation is 16.25 inches (and I think it was 11 or 12 inches when I was in 7th grade science class). We currently stand at 15.8 inches and still have five months left in the year.

Only 1/10 inch of rain yesterday but the monsoon is still in place

The fish almost seem to be playing. This morning I noticed several bands of small perch working along the shoreline. They almost remind me of gang-bangers in that their hunting tactics are hit-and-run.

1/2 inch of rain yesterday

Only 1/10 inch has fallen in my rain gage so far today, but lots more is here. It just floats around in the air not bothering to fall. The plants are maturing nicely but I haven't been able to do much with them. Fortunately, Cashmere does a little every day.
I missed the country fair entry deadline.

Swimming on Land

Surrounded by tremendous storms but none have hit us yet. Once again, the humidity outside is amazing.

Now it's raining.

Very Nice Day

Afternoon storms have been building for the past three days, and could unleash at any time. The sky is beautiful but the humidity is kind of intense. The numbers and varieties (colors and sizes) of dragonflies and damselflies are just amazing. It is like a lunchroom out there except more of a prison lunchroom since the diners are eating each other. The fluorescent blue dragonflies are almost hallucinogenic when they swarm by.

Cooler, but humid

Spent the day getting new glasses and barely had time to get back and take pictures before it was completely dark. The pastures between here and Hobbs were alarmingly green. I do enjoy the color green (the pond berm and all of the plants), but in an oasis. Browns, oranges and yellows are the colors of a normal summer, and all of this green is completely disconcerting. It feels like gluttony.
