Almost the 4th of July

105 degrees right now and intense to walk outside into, but still not like the previous 105 degree and humid days. We will probably even have several 110 degree days (or higher) this summer. I walked around the pond to move the water earlier. Birds are everywhere and when I sat on the ground for a few minutes, a dove landed and walked within two feet of me. It watched me closely but didn't seem overly alarmed by any movements I made. I shouldn't have been so accepting since Kilo hates for birds to be in her yard. I hope it doesn't make that mistake.

I'm just going to water heavily for the next several days and then mow again on Sunday. I want the pond to be perfect for the 4th of July.

Thursday

A nice growth period is in place. I've watered all of Bill's yard and all around the pond and am starting around again. I've decided to extend the berm grass by 10 to 15 ft. beyond the outside bottom of the berm because it will look better and the water is available. I may have to transplant sprigs (African bermuda) in some areas on the South, but mainly all I have to do is start watering there. Have also decided that once a week I'll take the time to water the garden from the pond instead of the well, then I shouldn't have to worry about using other fertilizers. It's been very hot, but so dry that it isn't as oppressive as the heat from a few weeks ago. The fish are doing incredibly well. Watching them eat in the mornings is like watching a shark feeding frenzy. I also noticed today that the Koi are thriving. I think Cashmere's husband has probably lost all interest in catching the rest of them so I may eventually have to learn how to fish. I really don't think I can sit patiently for as long as it takes to catch them.

My next project will be to finish this end of Bill's shop. The unpainted part ruins the view. Posted by Hello

These plants are actually sort of interesting. Nice shadows. It would take someone like John Steinbeck to describe the color of the flower. Posted by Hello

These Catfish are beautiful. I ate Catfish for lunch the day before yesterday, but still have no desire to eat these. Posted by Hello

As the moisture goes away, wildflowers of this color seem to linger the longest. These are luminous in the heat of the day and cover many of the pastures near town.  Posted by Hello

One of the few remaining Spring wildflowers. Posted by Hello

Southeast corner of the pond. I have rarely shown it before because I kept a big pile of branches, weeds and grass clippings there. I'm over that now, but the dumpster is full. Posted by Hello

Both cameras are working again today. Posted by Hello

It was overcast when I woke up and it sprinkled for a while between 7:30 and 8;30 AM. It cooled the day of significantly compared to the past week. Posted by Hello
