It rained most of the night and until about 10 AM so it was probably 10:30 before I took Kilo for her morning walk. Fortunately we saved the pond area for last, but it was a complete surprise for a few seconds. The surface is covered with fish - trying to breathe. I have been gone for almost a week and haven't been able to run the sprinkler system so that we can empty the bottom of the pond, or the waterfall to replace it. Then, two days of intense heat, cloud cover, rain, and then an algae bloom, and the pond is left with very little available oxygen for its densely packed inhabitants. I immediately started the water system again and worked with some of the more lethargic fish until the started showing life. They should be okay but I need to remember to not forget these yearly events.
