I made it to the fire pit area by 7 PM and everything had changed. The firepit and acrobat swing were gone and Camron appeared saying "we're not going to have the campfire today, we're going to hunt for ghosts." So we did. I mainly did things to the pond while he talked and jumped and made what were obviously power noises. For the most part I'm barely conscious of his presence (and never get the sense that it matters to him) during these parts of our interaction. It almost seems like he is acting out parts from a movie or television show, and I let it happen, because he always does something somewhere in the process that completely amazes me. During the ghost hunt he asked me if I would like ghost powers. I asked him what that would do for me and he said "for one thing, it would give you hair." That was pretty funny and when I laughed he added, "but it would still be grey." Then he practically hit me in the head with "when old people like you get ghost powers they only last for a little while, and then they are taken away, permanently."
(And his unintentional humor has many layers.)
As we were having the above conversation, we were sitting by a clump of water lilies on the North edge of the pond. As we talked I noticed one bee appear over the lilies, then another, then another, just sort of milling around. I pointed them out to Camron and told him to be careful around them and also to not try and swat them or annoy them in any way. When he asked why I reminded him of the difference between domestic bees and killer bees, that killer bees are in our area, and that there is no way to visually distinguish between the two types, so don't take any chances. As I was concluding this, a Yellow-jacket Wasp flew between us and startled him. He yelled "BEE" (so much for the remain calm lecture) and I pointed out that it was an entirely different creature, but still one that would sting. He started getting obviously and sincerely jittery and asked "is there anything on me?" I told him that there wasn't, and to not be afraid of them, just be cautious. He said "a moth landed on me one day but I flicked it off." I told him he could sort of do the same thing with stinging insects, but the main thing was to not be afraid of them, they weren't evil, just looking for food or trying to protect themselves.
Camron - "Maybe we should put up signs."
Me - "What good would that do?"
Camron - "Spelling Bee."
Some things are just too funny to mess with so I really have no idea as to why he said that but several possibilities did pop into my head. I almost feel guilty about tricking him into going home. Bill said he has waited for me nearly all day - or at least since he hurt his finger within minutes after they started doing body work on the car, which cancelled that event for the day.
