A small Grackle landed near the garden and didn't seem to notice me when I walked by. When I walked back by a few minutes later it had fallen over and was almost dead. Since it was still alive, I took it back into the pasture to get it away from the dogs and child, but suspect West Nile Virus is probably starting to take a toll on the local birds. I haven't noticed any mosquitos in our yards or around the pond, but birds fly in from everywhere. I'm still sad about losing 1/2 of our domestic bee population in the past two years, it would be a real drag to lose a large number of birds.
