Mid Spring

A really nice day, but sort of windy, and the heat is definitely close. It is still cool to cold at night and in the early morning but that won't change until July or August, and then for only a short while. We have very few hot nights.

It's almost evidence of a life-change that the plants that I transplanted last Spring have quadrupled (or more) in size. They were in a flower bed under my bedroom window for a couple of years and barely changed from the day I bought them. Then I moved them and not only have they continued to live, they are thriving. The large plant with red flowers (Impatiens? maybe) by the small waterfall was a twig for two years and now it appears to be moving to take over that whole bed. Because of evidence, I have yet to really believe that any plant will live after I put it in the ground, and although I do read the tags and always notice when one states that a plant "grows up to 5' wide and 10' high", I pay no attention to it. Since I have always expected them to all die quickly anyway, I just got the ritual (planting things) over with in the most convenient way. I planted wherever the stumps would be easy to dig out, and all at once. It's actually been a problem that my plants are starting to live because I am not ready for that next step.

The Star Jasmine is starting to bloom. I was sort of disappointed that it is not a true Jasmine, and I still want one along part of the fence, but have decided that it will also be a nice plant.
