Big Bird News
The great blue heron is back (How do I know it's the same one? He answers to the name Big Al, so who else could it be.) I can't get very close because the dogs get wild when I go toward the pond. I think they hate him for being so big.

Monday
An absolutely beautiful day. Extremely hot at noon, but little pieces of breezes showed up. It rained again Saturday night and the place has been saturated with mosquitoes for the past week. They don't bite me, but they're here.
Soft light all day. Vivid colors, no glare.

Bill's Current Obsession
I've sort of watched him rebuild this, but don't know any of the specifics, or even what it really is (i.e. Harley, Honda, Volkswagon). I can tell that it's a lot less purple and the seat looks more comfortable.
More Rain
Not a lot, but we got 1/10th of an inch in the past hour, and more clouds are building. I have maybee 1/4 of the pond area mowed and some of the trimming done. We have to finish quickly or it will look like a bad haircut.

Mold and Fungi
Such odd things in this place, ordinarily. I found mushrooms all over my yard today and can sense mold lurking behind everything. It was in the low 60's at 6 AM, but back up to 140 or so by noon (on the "feels like" index). I almost found the energy to mow the pond but it evaded me - no forwarding address. The prairies are beautiful, but I am about tired of green.
Rain and more Rain
It rained an inch on Sunday, and inch yesterday and we are surrounded by rain and under a floodwatch for today. Wow. The pond need to be mowed and I'll start on it as soon as the rain lets up. Have rarely experienced that here.

First Day of Fall
(Not really. It's just a placebo I'm using to try and stave off the heat. After today I'll continue to let scientific measurement push me around and tell me when the seasons change.)
It's almost tropical outside. Very humid and the variety of brilliant greens are hard to look at. There are more plants, more healthy looking plants, and more colorful plants than I remember seeing in years - the word lush almost applies. The pond needs work done right now but it's too hot. I already tried to move some rocks today but just walking out there made me tired. Maybe tomorrow, but I might have to wait until cool weather gets here. The Albuquerque news just said that 2006 will probably set the record as wettest year in New Mexico recorded history. That actually would have been something great if it hadn't come in a 2-week period. Many areas in the State, from Hatch through Rio Rancho in the Rio Grande Valley, along with just about every other town built in a flood zone, have been declared flood disaster areas. We have had a lot of rain here also, but no flooding.
