I Love the Smells of Late Summer

This morning the breezeway was incredible.

But first, I used to hate it when teachers used the word "awesome!" to describe every little scrap of homework that was turned in by their "incredibly wonderful" students. Overused to the point of meaningless it seemed at the time. Yet I have used the words wonderful, perfect, and incredible at least a thousand times each to describe the pond or its setting. Just a realization with no point.

Kilo and I sort of lingered there, enjoying the smells, instead of walking very far.

6 PM

Tremendous rain. Danger of flooding (actually not so much. This is one of the flattest areas on the earth but the whole plateau surface has a SE dip). It's incredibly neat.

8:30 PM
7/10ths of an inch of rain so far. It's stopped for now but there is a great lightning show to the East and more incredible clouds to the South and West.

Maybe Rain, Maybe Not

Clouds building all day, and an few sprinkles, but no rain yet. I barely took the time to walk out here today.

Pond A.M.

Woke up at 5 AM but it was sprinkling and we lounged around until 6:30. My sister and I are the only ones interested in fixing the waterfall, but between us don't have the energy of an infant, so we might not finish the rebuild until Spring. We will get it done, but it will take much longer than I had planned.

Beautiful day with a nice, cool breeze.

Partially Wasted Day

Didn't have the energy to move the rock pile, but trimmed around the pond perimeter. Mainly to keep snakes out of my own yard but also to make the pond look better.

More Interesting than Looking Up

The cloud reflections are incredibly nice this morning. I love the water movement across them. Am going to get something done to the waterfall demolition site today, if it is just pick up the wrecking bar, but maybe I will get the rock pile moved. That honestly has to go.

Visit to the Pond

My favorite pictures from the pond are sort of similar to Monet's Water Lilies. I had that print in my house for years and loved it but never really thought about it, or why I now take so many water lily pictures. Something subliminal going on there.

Still Nothing Done

I could be accused of being lazy. And it would be a cruel accusation, but probably true. I hate that. I don't like being accused at all, but find it much easier to endure accusations that are totally unfounded.

I am too lazy to cut those 2" pipes with a hacksaw. I did have a dream that I might, and tried for a few minutes. And it now appears that I am too lazy to even cut them with a saws-all and metal cutting blade (? I think that's what Bill called it, and he assured me it would slide right through metal like a hot knife through butter) . Not true and there aren't enough years left in my life to find out how long it really would take. As Bill and I were arguing my brother cut in and said he would bring the torch from his shop and cut them. He does have one, so I almost believe that could happen. Meanwhile we have re-routed the water and the waterfall structure is now a rapidly decaying relic until I can get those pipes out of the way.

The dragonflies and damselflies are extraordinary. The delicate luminous blue ones are back but this year the large orange ones are more numerous.
