Meeting a Neglected Obligation
Have started trimming the inner sides of the berm over the weekend. I began this project at the start of last spring when I couldn't figure out what to do with the dead reeds. We can't burn them off any more for several reasons and the most important is that several birds use them all winter, but they were hanging up the mower so I took the other quickest way out and clipped the most obnoxious of the excess that was hanging over onto the berm, but left the bulk in place in the water. It formed a sort of mat which was quickly covered when the new growth started, so it worked out for as much effort as I put into it.
Writing all of that may have made it seem that this year I'm going to do more, but not true. Although I almost did think about it.
