Almost Winter

In the low 70's today and will be again tomorrow. I fed the fish this morning and they are still there, just slower.

December?

Perfect day, beautiful clouds. In the low 70's. This morning at 2 AM I woke up and remembered I had left the pond running. It was overflowing when I got out there but not a big deal since it floods the breezeway. The water is completely clear all the way to the bottom and the overflow skimmed a lot of the willow leaves off of the surface.

Lots of Wind and Wind-blown Debris

I spent a while cleaning willow leaves and branches out of the pond and need to take the boat out to clean more. It was just too cold today. Beautiful cirrus clouds floated over all day and they just started bunching up to create these pictures.

Berm Warriorette

I just went out to turn off the water and Cashlin was cruising the berm in her post-apocalyptic vehicle. Her mother was cleaning the yard and she was seriously paying attention. It has been in the low 60's and was a totally beautiful day.

Still Cold

It was supposed to be 50 degrees today. Maybe it was. The last few days of freeze took out the rest of the plants. Even the tomatoes are now gone. Plastic just won't retain heat through the below freezing nights. The pond is so clear now that I can see the bottom and can tell that we have dumped a lot of dirt in it. The deepest part isn't more than 12 or 13 feet now. Not really so much but I was expecting the refill to take at least 1000 years.

December 1 Pond

The pond water is beautiful and clear. I need to clean the water surface, but it is too cold today. The high will be 60 degrees.

Last Day of November, 2006

It has been in the 80's for the past couple of weeks, but plunged yesterday and last night and there was snow covering everything this morning at 5 AM. I put my next-to-the-last log on the fire, started the coffee, and came back to bed. Maybe when I get up the snow will have melted and it will be 80 degrees again.

The Bittern was circling the pond, getting ready to land just as it was getting dark last night (what a strange looking bird), so he must be spending the season here again. This should get the rest of the outside plants, but the good news is, the greenhouse is still full of ripening tomatoes. The cold does bother them in that the skins are getting tougher, but their flavors are wonderful.

The weather update just come on and we aren't expected to get much above freezing for the next week - 34 is the expected high today and nothing above 45 for the next week. For myself, I'm not sure that I can stretch one log for that far, but the pond and it's inhabitants should pull through just fine.

One Sunday in November

An absolutely beautiful day. It reached the low to mid 70's and there was very little to no wind. The breezeway is still an enchanting little area of greenery.
